Shun Narukami 8″ Chef’s Knife

The Shun Narukami 8-inch Chef’s Knife combines the power of carbon steel with the easy upkeep of stainless steel. This beautiful knife has a Blue II carbon steel edge surrounded by two layers of bead-blasted stainless steel. This san mai stainless steel shield, in a Narukami (meaning “thunderbolt” in Japanese) pattern helps prevent corrosion, hide scratches and prevent food from sticking.

The advantages of the carbon core are remarkable. This Blue II carbon steel takes a very fine edge and holds it for hours of food prep. When it does need to be honed or sharpened, it is easily restored to a fine, razor-sharp edge. Carbon steel is the blade material preferred by professional chefs.

Making this Narukami knife even more practical (and beautiful) are its full tang construction and durable micarta handles.

The chef’s knife is a tool no kitchen should be without. The most versatile knife in any block, the 8-inch Chef’s is an all-purpose blade that’s the perfect length for slicing, dicing, chopping and mincing small and medium-sized foods – from strawberries to onions and eggplants. The rounded belly of this knife can be gently rocked through garlic and fresh herbs to produce a very fine mince. The wide blade keeps knuckles off the cutting board, and makes it easy to transfer ingredients from the board to the cooking pan.

CARING FOR YOUR NARUKAMI KNIFE:To maintain your Narukami knife, clean and dry the blade immediately after use. This will help prevent corrosion and rust.Over time, the carbon steel core and edge will darken and develop a patina. When this happens, the beautiful thunderbolt san mai pattern of the stainless steel over the carbon steel will become even more visible.
